The most feared dog is now one loved by most

The town of Winthrop Ma like many across the Country for many years had a restriction on Pitbulls that stoped you from owning one in that town. MassPaws a rescue group from the area has been working to have that reversed along with dog people from Winthrop.  I got to
meet the Winthrop dog officer through Oceanview Kennels a local shelter where I donate time they are the pound for the surrounding city's . Well there's a woman from Oceanview who people call the doglady and she is a Pitbull advocate who had been working with Mark for a while and had his attention on the matter and we had quite a few good conversations about the dogs their breed and the impact of the owner on the dogs. One day he shows up with a 75 pound Black Pit mix ( DUKE pictured left ) he had found this dog on a beach and took him to that citys pound thinking someone was looking for him but it was so late that night he couldn't do it till the morning he has a Pug and another dog cant remember what kind but he was nervous about bringing the dog in the house but didnt want to leave the dog outside so he leashed him and walked him in well there was no blood thirsty flesh ripping attack there was just a dog that wanted to be patted & play fetch just like his dogs.  Well the dog made such an impact on him he kept calling and checking if anyone had come to claim him
because if nobody comes looking for them within ten days they euthanize them. Well ten days passed and nobody claimed him but Mark went down paid for his shots and his release called us up to
see if we could find him a home and of course we said yes and soon after the ban was lifted. Now we have been doing dog days in Winthrop to promote responsible ownership and to show pitbulls are just dogs that want to be treated like any other dog. We have been welcomed  there by people of all ages and have been interviewed by the local cabel network and all who we have encountered have given us high praise.

We had two celebrity dogs in attendance this week Lilly the Pitbull who lost her leg saving her owner from being struck by a train and there was Bruin who I took there was accused of attacking someone and shot in the face by police even though he showed no aggression when police arrived  and then come to find out the boy who said he was attacked by Bruin had lied , he was trying to break in the house where the dog lived saw the dog and ran leaving the back door open which allowed Bruin to get out of the house and that's when the police pulled up to find him sitting on his own front porch and decided that shooting him was the proper response. This dog is a about a hundred pounds but is as gentle of a dog as any that I have met in my life even after being shot in the face he still is happy to meet everyone he comes across a great example of a Pitbull Terrier here are some photos of a the walk it was a good time with guess what no incidents because thats what happens with responsible owners.

Little Tan and white guy is Luke he is up for adoption he is being fostered by two girls who have a chawawa a Golden lab and a cat and he is great with all of them 100 % house trained and happy to meet everyone we have come across he is a perfect dog to use as a therapy dog he is one of my favorites

Me and Coal I fostered her for a couple months she was almost my third dog
but she got a great home they love her so much they want another one.

                                  Dogs Rescued This Year

This year in the New England area people have been more active in neutering and less people have been breeding so we have had a noticeable drop in dogs being taken in at the shelters which have been overwhelmed in the past years with the amount of homeless dogs they had received .

Another high point when the Governor passed a law where no dog shall be judged based on breed so any law passed would apply to a Golden Retriever as well as a Pitbull and thats how it should be every dog judged by their actions not their breed.

This year almost everywhere BSL has been put in action it has failed miserably and has been reversed all but a few stubborn places have admitted that banning Pitbulls did nothing to increase safety and was costly and almost impossible to enforce I want to thank all the people who helped us by fostering or by helping us to find homes for these dogs you have all done a great job and because of it things are starting to turn around.

Darla below wearing the clown hat
was a special case she lived  in Dee
from Mass Paws car for two months
But she never gave up on her & she is
                   now in a great home.

These pictures are just some of the dogs that were placed in homes because of everyone's hard work and dedication .

                                             Thank you all

Massachusetts Gov Deval Patrick repeals BSL

Massachusetts: New state law will nullify cities’ BSL

With New Bedford Animal Control Officer Manny Maciel by his side today, Gov. Deval Patrick signed a new, broad-based animal control bill into law, that, among its many provisions, prevents the regulation of dogs based solely on breed.

Stating clearly that “No city or town shall regulate dogs in a manner that is specific to breed,” the legislation ends debate in New Bedford and elsewhere on whether pits bulls should be banned.
The law further states that “no dog shall be deemed dangerous … based upon the breed of such dog.”
Reports out of Lowell and Worcester, MA, indicate that the breed-specific ordinances in both cities—and by extension, any other MA city with BSL—will be nullified by the new MA state law when it goes into effect on October 31. The new state law prohibits municipalities from regulating dogs based on breed.

Many attorneys in MA seem to agree that MA “home rule” does not allow city ordinances to conflict with state law. Even if cities do not officially repeal their BSL, the laws will be preempted and nullified by the new state law when it goes into effect.

Jonathan S. Rankin, a Framingham-based lawyer and chairman of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Animal Law Practice Group, said the new law says communities can make additional ordinances as long as the language is not breed-specific.

Boston Pitbull is a Hero

Lilly a 3 1/2 year old Rescued Pitbull saves womans life

Christine Spain, the mother of Boston police officer David Lanteigne, fell unconscious on train tracks in Shirley, MA. The engineer of a westward-bound freight train witnessed Lilly, a pit bull, frantically trying to pull the woman off the tracks as the train quickly approached.

Emergency responders arrived to the scene to find Lilly calmly standing guard over Christine. Lilly’s human companion was not injured, but the 8-year-old dog was not as fortunate. A Shirley animal control officer immediately drove Lilly to an emergency animal hospital where officer Lanteigne recovered her and rushed to Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston.
Lilly suffered severe trauma, fracturing her pelvis in multiple locations, facing internal injuries and having her front right leg later removed due to a serious injury from the train’s wheel.

Lilly the pit bull was rescued by Lanteigne 3 years ago as a companion for his mother who suffers from alcoholism. “We saved her life, and she saved my mom’s life.”
Pitbulls are  stereotyped as viscous Lilly stands as a testament to the loyalty, bravery and unconditional love of these amazing dogs. “Lilly’s story has moved us all beyond measure. I hope her actions will underscore the truth about Pit Bulls—that they are amazing animals and are as devoted to their family as any other dog and can I add just one more thing if Lilly had been wearing a Muzzle because of Breed Specific Laws a woman would of lost her life and this would be a much different story.    You can visit lillys facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Lillytheheropitbull also check out her video below.

Another Pitbull willing to give his life for his owner

Taking a bullet

Roberta Trawick was sitting on her couch in her Oklahoma City home when an armed intruder busted through her front door and told her to get on the ground. Her 2-year-old pit bull, D-Boy, then came charging into the room after the intruder, who fired multiple times, hitting D-Boy three times — including two shots to the head — but the dog continued to run after him. The intruder, apparently spooked, fled.
“That dog saved my life and my family,’ said Trawick. “Without D-Boy, that guy could have shot me and my family.” The Trawicks had rescued the pit bull from an abusive home just three months before the break-in.

Its seems strange that a Pitbull can save lives in the same state you
live in but it gets hardley any air time but if one bites someone 2000
miles away it is breaking news all over the country
You can find hundreds of stories about Pitbulls who have saved lives become therapy dogs work with search and rescue and also
law inforcement at Life With Dogs .
